God Will Put Your Faith to the Test
“And they were left, that He might test Israel by them, to know whether they would obey the commandments of the Lord, which He had commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.”
(Judges 3:4)
All of us have been put to the test. In my lifetime, I’ve been blessed to graduate high school, college, and seminary (twice). If I had a $20 bill for every test I’ve taken I’d be a wealthy man by now! Have you ever wondered why a teacher would administer a test? Just to punish the class? Because the school board says so? Of course not. A teacher issues a test is to gauge the student’s understanding of the subject matter. A test is designed to separate those who know from those who don’t.
The Bible tells us that teachers are not the only ones who issue tests. When the children of Israel took possession of the Promised Land, they were not able to drive out all the inhabitants of the land. The Word says, “these are the nations which the Lord left, that He might test Israel by them” (Judges 3:1). Why would God want to test His own people? “To know whether they would obey the commandments of the Lord.” God wanted to know if His people would stand up or fold up.
In the process of time, Israel folded like a lawn chair. They started inter-marrying the natives and worshiping their pagan gods. Time and again God judged them for failing the test. Likewise, God will test your faith. He will test you by allowing the Devil to the tempt you, placing you in the fire of adversity, etc. Every time God tests your faith He’s doing it for one reason – to see if you will continue to glorify Him. In the process of every test, He’ll make your faith stronger if you’ll simply trust in Him.
