Nowhere Else to Turn

“Simon Peter answered Him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’” (John 6:68-69)

Many people were fed by Jesus when He gave thanks and passed out the five loaves and two fish.  Probably around 20,000 people were fed on that occasion, and those who were fed stuck around to hear Christ teach.  Jesus delivered a message many were not prepared hear – He spoke of his followers partaking of His body and blood.  The message was offensive to the multitudes, and many of those who received a free lunch decided that they didn’t want anything further from Christ.

As the multitudes were walking away, Christ turned to His disciples and asked, “Do you also want to go away?” (John 6:67)  Peter wasn’t a perfect man, but on this occasion he got his answer exactly right – “To whom shall we go?  You have the words of eternal life.”  Peter and the disciples realized that salvation is found in no one other than Christ (Acts 4:12).  You can search for eternal life through Allah, Krishna, Buddha, and many others, but you’ll only find it by coming to Christ.

Furthermore, Peter said, “we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.”  What an amazing confession of faith!  Peter affirmed that Jesus is “the Christ” – God’s only Messiah.  He also affirmed that Jesus is the eternal Son of “the Living God” – Jehovah.  That being the case, there is nowhere else we can possibly turn.  Sadly, people will continue to turn to drugs, alcohol, pornography, etc., but the only place to find true satisfaction is in Jesus.
